Default Do you think I should downgrade Vista to XP?

Hello

I have a laptop that came with preloaded (no disc) Vista Home Basic (SP2). Its over 2 years old now and it's really struggling (it's having trouble running Firefox as I type and has frozen up twice!!). I very regularly run CCleaner and AusLogics Boostspeed.

Spec: 1.86 Ghz (Intel dual-core), 1Gb Ram, 105 Gb HDD, and it gets very hot when running.

I thought that it was underspec'd to be sold with Vista, so I was wondering if the knowledgeable of this community could advise me. I was thinking I should downgrade to XP. Do you think this would solve a lot of my problems of crashes, freezes and sluggish performance?

If so is there a cheap way to downgrade or do i have to just have to backup, wipe and load up XP?

I'd appreciate any feedback as it's taken over 45 mins to write this due to freeze ups! So frustrating

When it was new how did it run? if it ran ok new you might want to do complete reinstall clean off any thing you do not need. Such as 3rd party trial apps, Microsoft trials. The clean up the items that load at startup. As you use a Windows Machine and install new programs often they default to autoload so they are always running in the background so over time the computer slows down. You could also have a virus of some sort. If all else fails go to XP but do a new install.

Thanks for the response.

The laptop did run nicely when it was first bought. I will try and wipe and reinstall Vista but how do i do that when I don't have a Vista disc? Is there a nice guide on the web or can you explain to me what to do?

Many Thanks!
